During the summer months, the famous White Cap Mountains downhill ski slopes are transformed in to one of the most unique golf destinations in Wisconsin, Skye Golf. The venture to create a world class golf course within these mountains started over 40 years ago. Originally the property was purchased with intention to construct a golf course though the land was best utilized as a downhill ski area. Today the construction is complete and the course it is truly inspiring. The bent grass, 5320 yard par 70 is a relatively short course but don't let the length of it fool you. Because the course is carved out of existing landscapes, elevation changes are found on nearly every hole. Weather it's an elevated tiered tee box or elevated green, Skye favors accurate shot placement. Whitecap Mountain has traditionally been known for having a world class lodging. Course side lodging gives you the opportunity to stay and play. the best accommodations are found on the hill side condo -Mountain Meadows #3!

Along with golf there are other ways to take advantage of the area. ATVing, kayaking, hiking, or take in some of the beautiful waterfalls. All this can be done directly from resorts property.

What were the accommodations like?

It was our first time up at Whitecap and it was the perfect place to bring my family. We have three children ages 11, 9, 5. They took to the slopes so easily. After my youngest took a lesson he was ready for the chairlift and the slopes were fabulous. My husband and I found the wine hut to stop in and get some cider down one of the runs. Coming up from Chicago it was raining the whole trip until we pasted Wausau and the pulling into Whitecap it was truly snow covered. The full sized kitchen allowed us to make our own meals, and snacks. After a day of skiing the sauna was a great way to end the day. We are going to make Whitecap a tradition for the family!

RSN Editors' Review
Pushed higher than the Rockies long before the Himalayas and Lake Superior were formed, the Penokees stand in testimony to the earth's violent past. These ancient mountains, on which The Whitecap Mountains Resort is built, will hold you spellbound.
Whitecap Mountain is Wisconsin's largest ski resort. Take a shuss down into the land of the Grindelwald or dance playfully over the bumps of Kilimanjaro. SKI Magazine reports "...among the Midwest ski resorts the Whitecap terrain and trail system is most like the mountains."
Whitecap truly offers a "western mountains" skiing experience at a fraction of the cost.

Guy (Louisville, KY, 31 Jan, 2000): I am a long time Whitecap Skier, first discovering the place in the late '70's when there was little there besides a hill and snow. Our family has been hooked ever since. The greatest ski vacation we have ever had was spent in one of the chalet's right on the hill. Strap on the ski's, roost over the railing on the back porch, and on to the lifts. At night, sledding down the bunny hill!!!!!...

alex (merrillville,IN, 3 Jan, 2006): This place was great! The best ski area in the midwest. It is what I always thought a big mountain ski area would be like great runs, great staff, and cheaper prices than most others. No waiting lift lines, No waiting for rentals and really no people around anywhere. The rental guy said they were packed and maybe because of its size you just don't see it. This would be a great place to learn to ski or to challenge yourself at. The conditions were great was foggy for awhile which made it cool. I live in Indiana i just wanted to share my great time and will be going back to whitecap condo#3 asap. The scenic views are something that you won't forget. This place is it the best bar none in michigan and wisconsin. So go there and see for yourself.

El Rondo (Wisconsin Rapids WI, 14 Oct, 2005): Though I prefer skiing out west, for skiing's sake, Whitecap is always the best damn trip of the year. A good hill with a wide variety of terrain. Seriously, you will be amazed at the lay out of this place. You can actually get lost in the place. And they have this lift that goes from one peak to another... not for those with vertigo. This lift has got to be the highest lift in the US, no joke. People are generally relaxed, no pushy day skiers trying to fit a years worth of skiing into one afternoon. The town of Hurley/Ironwood is a lot of fun. Many bars and restaurants where you hangout for hours talking to people from all over the midwest who have found a little slice of heaven.
